By EditorArizona law requires that a community seeking incorporation within six miles of an established city of 5,000 or more residents must have the consent of the existing city before it can become incorporated.
Gold Canyon is within six miles of Apache Junction, therefore Gold Canyon cannot incorporate without the approval of the Apache Junction City Council.
Pinal County has confirmed that it will not consider an incorporation election without the approval of Apache Junction.The “Unofficial” 2000 Census tally for the population of Gold Canyon, AZ is 6,029. The 1990 Census tally for Gold Canyon, AZ was 713. The total for Pinal County was 179,727.
While an anticipated total for Gold Canyon is not available, Gold Canyon is anticipated to have a population of over 20,000 and Pinal County to have total population of over 287,563 by 2010.
