Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity Partner In Four-Year, $100 Million Commitment

September 2005 — A first of its kind poverty housing experience will be rolling into a neighborhood near you. Literally!

Did you know?

Substandard housing affects more than 13 million American families

About 6.1 million U.S. households live in overcrowded conditions, where the number of people living in the house is greater than the total number of rooms in the house

One out of every seven low-income families in the United States lives in physically inadequate housing with severe physical deficiencies such as having no hot water, no electricity, no toilet, or neither a bathtub nor a shower

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Habitat for Humanity International have aligned to educate people about the work they are doing to help eliminate substandard housing. A mobile education unit (a 48-foot semitrailer) will crisscross the nation, traveling to 120 communities over the next 15 months, giving visitors the powerful, interactive experience of living in substandard housing and showing what can be done to address the problem. The alliance-a four-year, $100-million commitment by Thrivent Financial will make possible the construction of 500 homes per year and engage 500,000 volunteers.
