MONEY Magazine Names the Best Places to Live in America; Moorestown, NJ, Tops List
NEW YORK–
July 11, 2005–MONEY magazine today released its list of America’s 100 Best Places to Live. Topping the list is Moorestown, N.J., followed by: (2) Bainbridge Island, WA, (3) Naperville, IL, (4) Vienna, VA, (5) Louisville, CO, (6) Barrington, RI, (7) Middleton, WI, (8) Peachtree City, GA, (9) Chatham, NJ and (10) Mill Valley, CA.
These towns and 90 others were selected after months of data analysis, research and on-site reporting by writers and editors at MONEY and at the magazine’s website, CNN/Money (www.money.com). Profiles of each of the top 10 places, along with a complete list of all 100 towns, will be featured in the August issue of MONEY, on newsstands July 25th and online at www.money.com/bestplaces.
“We set out several months ago to build a list of great American towns from all regions of the country,” said MONEY Managing Editor Eric Schurenberg. “Working with data provider OnBoard of Brooklyn, NY, we screened over 1,300 towns and surrounding areas with a population of at least 14,000. We wanted to identify places where you would want to raise your family and build your career - places with good schools, safe streets, economic opportunity and plenty of arts and leisure activities. America’s 100 Best Places to Live all offer those things.”
“As we winnowed the list further,” Schurenberg continued, “we dug deeper into the data, but we also began to look beyond the numbers, interviewing residents and community leaders and visiting top-ranking towns. No database, after all, can tell you where you’ll find the most vibrant downtown and the prettiest streets, nor can it reveal the strength of the attachment people have to their community.”
That reporting led to MONEY’s Top 10 ranking, and to naming Moorestown as America’s Best Place to Live. “Moorestown is more than a place of high income growth and high test scores,” said Schurenberg. “It’s an all-American town, a true community offering a rich life that draws people who grew up there back home to raise their own families.”
